About the Game
GuessHunt is a new word-of-the-day game in which users are challenged to guess the word of the day by asking one-word-answer questions to narrow down thier search. It is inspired by the classic game 20 Questions, but this time you are the one asking the questions!
Objective
The objective of GuessHunt is to guess the word of the day using as few questions, guesses, and hints as possible. After you guess the word correctly, compare against your friends by using the Share Results button on the Congratulations pop-up. Good Luck!

Answers were generated using AI and validated by humans - responses may be occasionally incorrect
How to Play
Asking Questions
- Begin by searching for a question by typing into the text field next to the Ask button.
- Select a question from the dropdown that will best narrow down the possible answers.
- After asking a question, GuessHunt will return one of the answers listed under the Question secton of the Possible Responses.
- If you can't find the question you are looking for, try rephrasing or typing in the key word(s) to find a similar question.
Making Guesses
- If you think you know the word, enter it into the Guess text box.
- After making a guess, GuessHunt will return one of the answers listed under the Guess secton of the Possible Responses.
Using Hints
- If you are stuck and can't think of a question or guess, click on the Hint lightbulb.
- There are three (3) hints for each word, with each hint revealing more detailed information than the previous one, so be sure to use them sparingly to avoid spoilers.
- After using all three hints, you will be given the option to Give Up. Be careful - once you click this button, the game is over!
Difficulty Modes
- In Easy mode, a dropdown under the Guess text box will reveal remaining possible answers.
- In Hard mode, this dropdown will be hidden.
- Note: Shared Results will be noted with an "(E)" if Easy mode was used at any point when playing for this word
Word Rating
Different than Difficulty Mode, each word is assigned a Word Rating which indicates how common or specific the word of the day is.
The four ratings are:
- Very Common / General: The word is broad (ex: "artist") or something seen frequently (ex: "dog").
- Common / General: The word is somewhat broad (ex: "bottle") or known, but not regularly thought about (ex: "hammer").
- Uncommon / Specific: The word is somewhat particular (ex: "architect"), abstract (ex: "question"), or infrequently used (ex: "CD").
- Very Uncommon / Specific: The word is highly particular (ex: "bakery"), abstract (ex: "anger"), or something rarely used (ex: "telescope").
- Note: Shared Results will be noted with an "(E)" if Easy mode was used at any point when playing for this word
Possible Responses
These are the reponses you can expect to see for Questions and Guesses:
Question Response Key
- Yes: this is almost always true or is otherwise charachteristic of the word
- Usually: this is often true, or may be generally true but not be exclusive to the word
- Sometimes: this is ocassionally true, or may technically be true but is not unique to the word
- Rarely: this is infrequent, or may be possible but not representative of the word
- No: this is almost never true or is otherwise not characteristic of the word
- Irrelevant: this question does not make sense for the word or may be misleading if answered
- Unkown : this question either doesn't have a known answer or is highly subjective
- GUESS: this question guesses the word or asks something specifically about the word
Guess Response Key
- Correct!: this is almost always true or is otherwise charachteristic of the word
- Close...: this is often true, or may be generally true but not be exclusive to the word
- Incorrect: this is ocassionally true, or may technically be true but is not unique to the word
Tips & Tricks
Strategy
Start Broadly: Your first few questions should be very generic until you feel confident that you know the item's category.
- Example: "Is it bigger than a microwave?", "Is it naturally occurring?", "Is it found in a home?".
Question Types: If you are stuck, think about some of the common question types to help narrow your search.
- Example: "Does it have to do with ...", "Is it used for ...", "Is it made of ...".
If you are struggling to think of questions, select Strategy from the menu.
Question Format
You will see several similar questions in the dropdown list.
In many cases the answer will be the same.
- Example: "Can you hold it?" and "Do you hold it when you use it?" will both be "Yes" for a phone.
In some cases, they will be opposite.
- Example: "Can you hold it?" and "Do you hold it when you use it?" will be "Yes" and "No" for a lightbulb.
Using Autofill
Some questions won't be worded exactly as you wrote - use the autofill to your advantage.
For comparisons, type the question first.
- Example: Type "Is it bigger than" and then select "Is it bigger than a breadbox".
For conceptual questions, type the important word(s) first.
- Example: Type "plug" and then select "Does it have to be plugged in".
